Date Posted: 2010-04-23 16:12:46

Deborah Ford, Portland State University (PSU) is conducting a research study to investigate how hospital culture and nurse characteristics at work influence nurses’ performance, commitment, job satisfaction, and stress. The study is interested in sampling staff nurses and shift managers/charge nurses in the following fields or related fields:

  • Critical Care, NICU
  • Emergency, Trauma
  • General Medical, Medical Surgical, General Surgical
  • Maternal and Child Care/Obstetrics
  • Oncology
  • Pediatrics

Participants will be asked to complete two web-based surveys. The research team is interested in surveying staff nurses and shift managers from the same unit to obtain diverse perspectives. The initial survey asks various questions regarding nursing work life, perspectives of the organization, co-workers, current job, and some questions about the individual. Following a one-month period, participants will be asked to complete a second survey that will ask similar questions to the first survey.  The two surveys are designed to take approximately 10-15 minutes in length each. Participants will be entered into a lottery to receive $50 gift cards or a $500 gift card.
