New Serviced Added to Aged and Physically Disabled

In February 2010 Seniors and People with Disabilities added a new service to the Aged and Physically Disabled Waiver #0117.90.R2. This waiver serves persons who are eligible for Medicaid funded long term nursing home services. ANCC Creates LTC Pathway to Excellence Program

The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) is pleased to announce the new Pathway to Excellence in Long Term Care™ (PTE-LTC) Program. This is the first recognition of its kind for long term care facilities. Like Pathway to Excellence®, the new Long Term Care Program recognizes the essential elements of an optimal nursing practice environment. The Pathway to Excellence in Long Term Care Program also recognizes long term care facilities that foster work environments where nurses can flourish, substantiates the professional satisfaction of nurses, and identifies best places to work. The impact of healthy work environments on nurse satisfaction and retention is evident in the literature and many studies have indicated a strong impact of a positive work environment on patient safety, patient satisfaction, and quality care. ANCC believes that these studies will translate favorably to the long term care community.

Senate Nursing Caucus Launched

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Senators Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Mike Johanns (R-NE), Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) and Olympia Snowe (R-ME), announced the creation of the Senate Nursing Caucus to strengthen the nursing profession and advance the goals of the nursing community.  Members of the Senate Nursing Caucus will come together to discuss issues affecting the nursing community and explore ways to enhance the role nurses play in the delivery of high-quality health care.

HRSA Study Finds Nursing Workforce is Growing

The number of licensed registered nurses (RNs) in the United States grew to a new high of 3.1 million between 2004 and 2008 according to a report released today by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).  This increase of more than 5 percent also reflects growing diversity in the backgrounds of nurses in the United States.
